Air Fryer Goats Cheese with Kale Salad

Grab some goats cheese, dip it in flour, egg, then breadcrumbs. Fry until golden brown. Serve with a salad.

The only complicated part is battering the goats cheese. Dip it in flour, egg, then some breadcrumbs. While your air frying them, prepare a side to serve it with. They're great to add into a salad, or just by themselves for a quick bite.

Freeze your cheese

Not completely frozen. But the first step, you want the soft cheese to be really cold so it's firm and easier to cut. I threw my cheese in the freezer for 10 minutes.

Slicing goats cheese with a knife?

The soft goats cheese loves to stick to knives as you slice them. So get ready for bit of a mess.

After a few slices, the knife gets stuck with cheese. I tried dipping the knife into a glass of hot water in between cuts to give it a nice clean. But didn't really work as well.

Instead I just ended up powering through the 'stuck' slices then just squished them back into a disc shape, like so:

It wasn't perfect but I only had one log of goats cheese to prep. If I was making more then I'd get myself a wire cutter. I've used one in a kitchen years ago. Otherwise, I'd recommend just getting your hands dirty and forming them into balls instead.

The 'cleanest' method would be to use a cheese wire cutter to make the cuts. The wire has way less surface area than a blade for the soft cheese to stick making the cut magically easy.

You can also use dental floss (make sure to use a flavor-less floss!) to make the cut.

Coating your goats cheese (aka dredging)

You'll want to setup 3 bowls.

  • 1 with flour
  • 1 with egg
  • 1 with breadcrumbs
3 bowls prepared with flour, egg, and breadcrumbs

Flour - just use plain, but any will do in a pinch.

Egg - beat the egg until combined.

Breadcrumbs - use panko bread crumbs if you have them. They are generally a bit larger with a nicer crunch, and fancier look. But regular store bought breadcrumbs work too (or just make your own from left over bread and store them in an air tight container)

You can also add some herbs or spices into your breadcrumbs to develop a further flavor profile. But for this one, I'm keeping it simple.

How to dredge

Now all that's left is to begin dredging your goats cheese slices. Remember, flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs.

Dip the cheese into flour. I like to use a fork to keep my hands clean.

Make sure to get both sides.

Then dip into the beaten egg.

Now put it aside on a plate and repeat for the rest of the slices of cheese. You may need to top up your bowls if you have more slices to get through.

Breaded goats cheese on a plate

I ended up with 9 slices from using a small 110g log of goats cheese from Aldi.

Now that the goats cheese are all dredged. You'll want to chuck them in the freezer for at least 20 min to keep them firm and from falling apart before air frying.

How to air fry goats cheese

Preheat your air fryer to 180°C / 350°F with an empty basket for about 3 min.

Preheating air fryer

Once heated, place your goats cheese slices into the basket of your air fryer. Leave enough space between each to avoid overcrowding. Air fry in batches if you have a small basket.

Give the basket a quick spray of oil.

Now pop the basket back in and air fry at 180°C / 350°F for 5 min.

Pull out the basket. They'll look almost done on the top side, but just make sure to flip each over to get the other side done.

Hit them with another quick spray of oil.

Then finish them off for another 5 min.

Done! That's how you can air fry goats cheese.

How to serve fried Goats Cheese?

Gobble them up with some sea salt, and drizzled honey. Or add them to the top of your next salad.

I grabbed a bag of beetroot and kale salad from Aldi. Beetroot and goats cheese go amazingly together. See if you can find a similar premade salad at your grocery store. Or if you have time, whip one up yourself from scratch.
